According to ESPN, the cornerbacks currently listed on the Chiefs’ roster for the 2026 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> season are as follows: Nohl Williams and Kristian Fulton emerge as the starters, with Nazeeh Johnson, Melvin Smith Jr., Joshua Williams, and Eric Scott Jr filling in occasionally. Moreover, Chris Roland-Wallace, Mike Edwards, and Jaden Hicks currently serve as the nickels in Andy Reid’s defense.

Trent McDuffie has set the record as the highest-paid cornerback after signing a $124 million deal with the Rams, a contract that will pay him $31 million per year over the next four seasons. Two other <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> players at the same position will also earn around $30 million during the upcoming 2026 season.



Adam Schefter shared a list on X (@adamschefter) highlighting the six highest-paid cornerbacks for the upcoming NFL season. McDuffie tops the list, while Sauce Gardner and Derek Stingley Jr. will earn similar salaries this year.

<h2>The longest contracts among active cornerbacks in the NFL</h2>



Three cornerbacks currently hold the longest active contracts entering the 2026 season. None of them appeared on the previously shared list from Schefter of the highest-paid players at the position. All three signed five-year deals worth between $100 million and $88 million.

And it’s the No. 5, way more valuable than LA’s No. 29.

McDuffie played a key role in the Chiefs’ defense during the last four seasons, recording 246 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, 34 pass deflections, and three interceptions during his time at Arrowhead. In 2023, he was a first-team All-Pro.



However, the Chiefs had their backs against the wall with McDuffie entering the final year of his rookie deal and commanding an extension they probably couldn’t afford due to their salary cap situation. In fact, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/chiefs-make-important-decision-on-patrick-mahomes-contract-for-2026-salary-cap">Kansas City had to restructure Mahomes’ deal earlier this offseason</a> to get more wiggle room in 2026.



<h2>Chiefs confident trading McDuffie could be worth it</h2>



Jeremy Fowler of ESPN and Jordan Schultz of FOX explained that the reason why the Chiefs accepted to surrender McDuffie has to do with their confidence in their ability to draft and develop talent, especially at cornerback, apart from their need to free up cap space.



This deal is reminiscent of the trade that sent Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins back in 2022, when the Chiefs traded away a player in his prime to rebuild for the future. That move paid off, as even without Cheetah, Mahomes went on to make three more Super Bowls, winning two of them (both with McDuffie).
