Aaron Judge and the Yankees dropped the latest edition of the Subway Series at Citi Field, losing the first two games before finally snapping their seven-game losing streak in the finale. After that final game, Judge gave credit to Carlos Mendoza’s New York Mets for how well they played across the series.
“They got a great ballclub. It starts with their manager,” Judge said. “Mendy, I’ve seen him for years here. He’s going to get the boys fired up, ready to go. It’s a great ballclub.” Those were respectful words from the Yankees captain after falling short in the first two matchups.
The Mets didn’t hold back in the rivalry showdown, and Judge was well aware. He went just 3-for-12 in the series but did deliver in Game 3 with a home run that proved crucial in ending the Yankees’ skid.
Mets contain Judge
Mendoza’s Mets executed a solid game plan against Judge throughout the series, striking him out four times over the three games and managing to limit his impact. Though Judge still managed to hit two home runs, it was the Mets’ pitching that stood out, outdueling the Yankees on the mound.
Despite the team’s struggles, Judge had a strong individual week. In the early days of July, he’s already reached a 7.0 WAR, ranking ahead of many of MLB’s top hitters, including some of the Mets’ own like Juan Soto. Judge wrapped up the week with a .455 batting average, 4 home runs, 8 RBIs, and a 1.727 OPS.
When’s the next Subway Series?
This year’s Subway Series marked the final regular-season matchup between the Mets and Yankees in 2025. The only chance they’ll meet again would be in the postseason—something that hasn’t happened in a long time. If not, both teams will have to wait until next year’s regular-season slate.
