MLB Rumors: Brewers going all-in for infield upgrade Yankees and Reds had eyes on

The Milwaukee Brewers appear more than ready to make moves at the trade deadline — and one of those moves could involve a player who was recently linked to both the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds.

The Milwaukee Brewers are determined to strengthen their roster by any means necessary as they gear up for a postseason run, and one player who could help is an infielder who’s been generating buzz lately — and was recently linked to the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds.

It’s not that the Brewers are struggling in the infield. In fact, their infielders have had a relatively solid season, with third baseman Caleb Durbin standing out at the plate with a .265 batting average. Still, third base appears to be the position Milwaukee is looking to upgrade.

While the Yankees are reportedly no longer in the mix, the Brewers are now viewed as the most aggressive team in pursuit of the player, according to a report from Sean Wright. Meanwhile, the Reds are still seen as strong contenders, and there’s speculation they may already have a mutual agreement with the team currently holding the third baseman’s rights.

Who’s the third baseman the Brewers are targeting?

According to the report, it’s Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez that Milwaukee is zeroing in on. The Brewers are more than willing to pursue him to fulfill team owner Mark Attanasio’s push to upgrade the roster ahead of the stretch run.

“The Milwaukee Brewers are ‘aggressively in pursuit’ of Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez,” Wright reported on X. “Principal owner Mark Attanasio is pushing to upgrade the roster ahead of the stretch run as Milwaukee eyes reinforcements on the infield.”

If acquired, Suárez would bring veteran presence to third base — which could put Caleb Durbin’s spot at risk. While Durbin leads Brewers infielders in batting average, his teammates have been more productive in key offensive categories like RBIs, hits, and home runs.
