The San Francisco Giants made few — if any — major moves at the trade deadline, but according to Buster Posey, the deals they did make might be enough to help the team move forward.
“I think it was watching the way we played over the last month and how poorly we played since the break,” Posey said. “We felt like this was a time that we needed to try to get back some players that will help us going forward in the future.”
Since the All-Star break, the Giants have played 12 games and won just two, a rough stretch that’s highlighted their offensive struggles and the urgent need to strengthen the roster. Posey said, “We had to make a decision here to try to add some talent that we felt like could help us going forward…”
Posey satisfied with the trades
Despite the limited return, which included former Mets pitcher José Butto, Posey appears satisfied with the outcome. These additions are seen as long-term investments for the organization, with the hope that the Giants can return to early-season form as soon as August.
“Overall, I think Zack (Minasian) and myself and the rest of the group are happy with the players that we have coming to put on a Giants uniform now,” Posey said, noting that most of the additions came from the Mets and Yankees.
“We just haven’t looked like the same team as we did at the beginning of the year,” he added. “I felt like at the beginning of the year we harped on doing the little things right, it was clean baseball. We’ve kind of taken a 180. We’ve somehow got to recapture that form, that style of baseball that we had at the beginning of the season.”
