It’s no secret that Eugenio Suárez has been a target for the New York Yankees for some time. And according to a recent report, the Bombers appear willing to go all-in to bring him — and a few of his Diamondbacks teammates — from Arizona to the Bronx.
The Yankees’ plan isn’t just to acquire Suárez. They’re also eyeing one of Arizona’s top-performing pitchers this season — a right-hander with a 9-5 record and a 3.32 ERA — someone who could provide a significant boost to the rotation.
While it’s unclear what kind of contract Suárez might command, what is clear is that the Yankees have a trade package ready. That deal reportedly includes one of the Bombers’ top prospects — a sign they’re ready to take a major swing.
What Are the Yankees Offering for Suárez?
According to ‘Que Pasa MLB’ host Ricky Ricardo — the Spanish-language voice of the Yankees — the team has prepared a five-prospect trade package that includes pitcher Cam Schlittler. The proposed deal would send the group to Arizona in exchange for Eugenio Suárez, Merrill Kelly, and Jalen Beeks.
“There’s a proposal on the table…” Ricardo said during the show. “Five Yankees prospects, not Lombard, not Jones. Five prospects including Schlittler to the Diamondbacks for Merrill Kelly, Eugenio Suárez, and Jalen Beeks.”
The proposal doesn’t sound unreasonable. Suárez brings value at the plate, but the real prize might be Merrill Kelly, given how desperately the Yankees need starting pitching — help they haven’t been able to secure so far.
