Marcus Stroman had been sidelined for a while as he recovered from an injury, and while the New York Yankees rotation managed to stay afloat without him, his return has now been confirmed—he’ll start against the Athletics.
According to the latest comments from Aaron Boone, the Yankees plan to use Stroman on June 29 in the series finale against Oakland. The team opened the series with a win and hopes to take another home series, just as they did against Baltimore.
Stroman hasn’t thrown a pitch in an MLB game since April 11, and his last outing was a rough one—he gave up 5 runs. With only three starts this season, he carries a 11.57 ERA, putting him in a tough spot as he looks to bounce back.
How Could Stroman Help the Yankees’ Rotation?
It’s true that Marcus Stroman has had a challenging year; his start as a starter was poor, and after an injury, things haven’t gone as he’d hoped. However, he’s rested, and the Yankees could benefit from a fresh arm in a rotation that needs experienced players like him.
The only issue is that Stroman also had two truly bad starts in recent minor league outings, allowing 20 runs in 19.2 innings—quite disappointing for a player of his caliber. However, it remains to be seen if he can readjust now that he’s back in the majors.
Who Does Stroman Replace in the Yankees’ Rotation?
While not yet official, it’s highly probable that Stroman will replace Ryan Yarbrough, who recently made eight starts for the Yankees. Yarbrough is currently injured and was placed on the 15-day injured list. Five days ago, Allan Winans covered his spot.
