Back in the majors with the New York Mets, Mark Vientos was as honest as he could be about his recent struggles at the plate—an issue that has fans concerned about his lack of production.

Mark Vientos hasn’t been producing at the level the New York Mets were hoping for, and he acknowledged how tough the situation has been after spending over 20+ days on the injured list. He came back hoping to make a stronger impact this season.

Vientos didn’t hide how he felt, saying, “I think I’m in a good spot right now.” He also admitted that his timing could return soon, adding, “I could say that tomorrow I’ll feel back to normal,” a comment that seemed to reference his recent 0-for-4 performance against the Pirates.

His last hit came back on June 1 against Colorado. While the injury offers some explanation, it hasn’t shielded him from criticism—Vientos has just 43 hits in 54 games this year, well below expectations for someone the Mets hoped would take a step forward in 2024.

What’s Expected of Vientos in 2025?

Mark Vientos played in 65 games in 2023, followed by 111 games in 2024. At that pace, he’s expected to surpass his career high with the Mets again this season. Unfortunately, his current .225 batting average is keeping him from putting up big numbers.

His strong .266 average in the 2024 MLB season suggested things could improve significantly in 2025. However, Vientos started this year poorly, struggling to raise his average through March and April. It wasn’t until May that he showed significant improvement.

Did Mendoza Rush Vientos’ Return?

It’s worth noting that on June 23, manager Carlos Mendoza had stated Vientos was playing in Triple-A as part of his recovery. Mendoza had previously said in a press conference that Vientos needed more time before returning to the Mets.
