Michael King and three other former Yankees pitchers set to start on Opening Day

Many of the top pitchers in MLB today were once part of the New York Yankees. Among them, Michael King and three others will be Opening Day starters for their respective teams.

Michael King will be one of the former New York Yankees pitchers taking the mound as an Opening Day starter. He has been named the Padres’ starter for their season opener against the Braves at home.

Another familiar former Yankee, Luis Severino, will also be on the mound. After signing a lucrative $67 million deal with the Athletics, Severino will start their first game of the year against the Mariners in what could be a big game for him.

The third former Yankees pitcher is Sonny Gray, who first made a name for himself with the Athletics before a brief stint in New York. On Sunday, March 16, the Cardinals announced that Gray will be their Opening Day starter.

Last but not least, Clay Holmes, who recently pitched for the Yankees, will take the mound for the New York Mets. He joins a team that also features Juan Soto—another former Bomber—who landed a massive contract with The Orange and Blue.

Clay Holmes will visit the Houston Astros to make his debut with the Mets on Opening Day. It should be a relatively easy outing for him, given his strong stats against the Astros during his Yankees tenure, including 10 games pitched, 10 innings, a 0-0 win-loss record, 6 saves, a 0.90 ERA, 6 strikeouts, and 2 walks.
