Juan Soto made his highly anticipated debut with the New York Mets, but it didn’t go as many had hoped. While expectations were high for a big performance—possibly featuring home runs—the Dominican star struggled to make an impact, and the Mets fell to the Astros in a tough loss.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Soto remained upbeat. His first game in a Mets uniform may not have gone as planned, but his postgame comments painted a different picture. “For me, it was a good experience,” he said, adding that he enjoys playing alongside his new teammates: “These guys are amazing.”

Soto emphasized the bond he has already built with his teammates since MLB spring training, suggesting that chemistry will be a key factor for the Mets moving forward. “We’ve been having a good time since spring training, so we’ve just got to bring that all the way.”

Of course, it’s too soon to judge Soto based on just one game. However, given his star power, many expected him to at least drive in a run against an Astros team that put top-tier pitchers on the mound to shut down the Mets’ offense.

What happened to Soto in his Mets debut?

Soto managed just one hit in three at-bats and was thoroughly tested by Astros pitchers Framber Valdez and Josh Hader. After a tough battle against Hader in the final inning, Soto chased a pitch and fell into the trap, recording the last out of the game with two Mets runners stranded on base.

Harsh reactions to Soto’s debut

While Soto stayed positive in his postgame remarks, the reaction on social media was far less forgiving. On X, fans were quick to criticize, with some mocking his massive contract by saying, “$765 million for 1 hit,” while others joked, “The curse of leaving the Yankees.”
