As one of the top contenders for last season’s World Series title, the New York Mets entered the offseason exploring ways to strengthen their roster for another championship run. With the addition of Juan Soto and the re-signing of Pete Alonso, the team remains focused on its ultimate goal heading into the 2025 season.

While the Mets secured key players for the upcoming campaign, others hit free agency. Some have already signed with new teams, while others are still searching for their next destination. One notable departure has now been confirmed, as a former Mets pitcher will not be joining Soto and Alonso in Queens.

New York opted not to bring back Colombian left-hander Jose Quintana, leaving him to test the free-agent market. After spending the past two seasons with the Mets, the veteran southpaw has reportedly found a new home for 2025.

According to MLB insider Robert Murray, Quintana has agreed to a one-year deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. “Free-agent pitcher Jose Quintana and the Milwaukee Brewers are in agreement on a one-year contract, according to sources familiar with the deal,” Murray reported on X.

Quintana’s impact on the Mets

Colombian pitcher spent two seasons with the Mets, leaving his mark with solid performances that contributed to the team’s run to the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last season, he allowed just 11 hits, six earned runs, and one home run, proving to be a reliable presence on the mound.

However, his true impact was felt during the regular season. Quintana posted a 10-10 record with a 3.75 ERA across 31 starts. Over 170.1 innings pitched, he struck out 135 batters while allowing 150 hits, 73 runs, and 22 home runs. His steady production played a key role in the Mets’ rotation throughout 2024.

Now entering his 14th MLB season, Quintana faces stiff competition for a roster spot. With the Mets moving in a different direction, he could soon be suiting up for his eighth franchise.
