Tarik Skubal is putting together another strong season for the Detroit Tigers — one that could surpass last year’s breakout campaign, when he finished with a 2.39 ERA and an 18–4 record. So far this year, he’s tallied 111 strikeouts, and that dominance just earned him a spot alongside Clayton Kershaw in a historic stat line.
Skubal has won seven consecutive decisions and holds a 10–4 record over 14 starts this MLB season. But it’s a specific 12-start stretch that makes his run especially notable — and historic.
“Tarik Skubal has 101 strikeouts and 5 walks in his last 12 starts. Skubal is the second pitcher to record 100+ strikeouts and 5 BB or fewer in a single-season 12-start span in at least the last 125 seasons, joining: 2016 Clayton Kershaw,” wrote Sarah Langs on X.
Four nearly perfect outings fuel the streak
Skubal’s recent stretch has been particularly lights-out, with just one earned run allowed across his last four starts. He now owns a 1.99 ERA, and his form suggests he could be a key force in helping the Tigers return to the postseason.
It’s worth noting that Skubal had two scoreless starts in last year’s postseason before a rough outing against the Cleveland Guardians, where he gave up five runs and took the loss in a 7–3 defeat. Still, his postseason potential remains high.

Tigers’ outlook fueled by Skubal’s dominance
Skubal, currently playing under a one-year, $10 million contract, has been central to Detroit’s surge. The Tigers are off to a strong start this season, sitting atop the AL Central with a 46–25 record. Their rotation — featuring Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Casey Mize, Wilmer Flores (Montero likely refers to this), Jackson Jobe, and Reese Olson — looks solid and still has room to improve.
