Trent Grisham continues to contribute to the Yankees however he can, but manager Aaron Boone hasn’t been as kind following some outfield mistakes, leading to a sharp critique that pointed to one of Grisham’s weaknesses.
Boone said Grisham was struggling in the outfield, remarking, “You ever see him go get a fly ball or hit a homer and flip his bat and catch the barrel? He doesn’t know press.” The comment came after the Yankees’ 7–3 series finale win over the Angels.
However, Boone did acknowledge earlier in june that he liked how Grisham was working at the plate, saying, “Really good. For me, not much has changed.” That suggests Boone’s opinion of Grisham has shifted somewhat.
How did Grisham respond to Boone?
His response was brief and avoided stirring any controversy. Grisham simply acknowledged how tough the MLB season is and said he knows he needs to make a bigger effort given the situation.
“You have to make a conscious effort. This game over 180 days will beat you up. That was something that was taught to most all of us coming up through the minor leagues,” Grisham said.
