Despite the numerous challenges facing the New York Yankees at the start of the 2025 MLB season, including a series of injuries to key players, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has expressed confidence in Aaron Boone’s ability to guide the team.
Aaron Boone, who has been under pressure for much of his tenure as Yankees manager, faced constant speculation about his future during the team’s difficult 2023 season. However, the organization stood by him, exercising his option for the 2025 season and later signing a two-year extension that keeps him under contract through 2027.
Speaking to reporters before a spring training game between the AL East rivals, Alex Cora praised Boone, calling him “one of the best” managers in Major League Baseball, according to Bryan Hoch on X (formerly Twitter).
“They’re a really good team, managed by one of the best in the business,” Cora said. “Yeah, Gerrit [Cole] is out, but Gerrit was out last year, and they made it to the World Series. … That guy over there, man, I know [Aaron Boone] gets a lot of [crap] from people. But he’s one of the best in the business.” Cora’s statement highlights the respect he has for Boone, even amid the intense rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees.

Boone’s crucial season ahead
The 2025 season is shaping up to be one of the biggest challenges of Boone’s managerial career. The Yankees will be without ace Gerrit Cole, who is sidelined for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Additionally, the team will start the season with Luis Gil, Giancarlo Stanton, and DJ LeMahieu on the injured list. Clarke Schmidt’s status is also uncertain due to shoulder fatigue, though he is making progress in his recovery.

Despite these setbacks, the Yankees boast a talented roster. Aaron Judge is in good shape, and Max Fried, signed as a free agent, will take Cole’s place as the Opening Day starter. Players like Austin Wells, Cody Bellinger, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. are expected to keep the team’s offense competitive.
Cora’s Praise: Beyond the rivalry
Alex Cora’s praise for Aaron Boone underscores the importance of leadership and adaptability in MLB. Despite the historic rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees, Cora recognizes Boone’s talent and experience, highlighting his ability to handle pressure and guide the team through adversity.
The 2025 MLB season will be a crucial test for Boone, and his success will depend on his ability to overcome challenges and lead the Yankees to victory.
