As close as the series had been until Game 5, the Boston Celtics were eliminated by the New York Knicks in a resounding 38-point blowout. Without Jayson Tatum, the Celtics struggled to find rhythm on offense. Consequently, no player stepped up, and no one scored more than 20 points. Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown continued his quiet run and delivered another underwhelming performance in Game 6. After the loss, Brown finally spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the team’s disappointing playoff exit.
“Things didn’t go our way this year, and it’s unfortunate, but we hold your head up regardless…Losing to the Knicks feels like death, but I was always taught that there’s life after death, so we’ll get ready for whatever’s next in the journey, we’ll be ready for,” stated Jaylen Brown after the game.
In the series against the New York Knicks, Jaylen Brown played 6 games where he averaged 21.6 points and contributed with 6.8 rebounds and 5 assists. Although his numbers were not entirely low, he failed to excel. After Jayson Tatum’s unfortunate injury, everyone expected him to step up and excel in scoring. This was not the case and triggered an elimination against the Knicks.
After failing to meet their NBA season goals, the Boston Celtics could be forced to make changes to their roster. In addition, Jayson Tatum’s tough injury the offense could be sidelined for several months. In the face of this, new players could arrive to the team and Joe Mazzulla would have to consider leaving the dependence on Tatum that has brought him so much criticism.
