Chris Paul might not join LeBron James and the Lakers

Even though the rumors point out that the Los Angeles Lakers could pursue Chris Paul, he might not be ready to join his lifelong friend, LeBron James.

The Phoenix Suns are reportedly considering the possibility of parting ways with Chris Paul. Once considered one of the best — if not the best — point guards in the NBA, his age, injury-proneness, and steep salary have made him a bit of an afterthought.

However, multiple teams could still look to make a run at the out-of-favor Point God. And that includes the Los Angeles Lakers, which are reportedly in the market for an upgrade over D’Angelo Russell.

Nonetheless, as much as that thought could appease LeBron James and his alleged desire to retire, Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Lakers might not even get a chance to reach out to Paul after all.

Suns Still Want To Keep Chris Paul

“I’m told that the Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul had a series of conversations today to start discussing his future in Phoneix, including the possibility that the team could use the waive-and-stretch provision on his contract prior to the June 28th date to guarantee his contract,” Woj reported.

“Chris Paul wants to remain with the Suns and he wants to be back with Devin Booker and Kevin Durant,” Woj continued. “Right now, the Suns are looking at a lot of alternatives, including trade possibilities. They’re going to have talks about Deandre Ayton, so can they move money around to keep Chris Paul on the roster? Or find a trade where they can build out their depth. Right now, Phoenix would like to find a way to financially keep Chris Paul on this roster.”

So, it seems like the Lakers might have to look elsewhere for their new point guard. That’s unless no team wants to trade for Paul and his massive contract and the Suns have no choice but to waive him.
