The Los Angeles Lakers were eager to take the hardwood last night after getting their league-high tying 17th ring before their first game of the 2020/21 NBA season. However, their dream night ended in a nightmare.

It was pretty clear that the reigning champions are still weeks away from getting back to game shape after enduring the shortest offseason in major sports history. They need to get their legs back under them as they didn’t play with enough intensity or rhythm.

That’s why the Los Angeles Clippers led from start to finish. In fact, they were up by 22 points at some point before the Lakers rallied back to tie it at 75. At the end of the night, Tyronn Lue’s team got a 7-point win that was pretty lopsided for most of the game.

LeBron James got off to a slow start and struggled with his shot and decision-making before breaking out in the second half. Lakers’ newcomers Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell had an outstanding game, while Wesley Matthews and Marc Gasol were more modest.

Paul George erupted for 33 points to get a head start on his revenge season and the Clippers took the first game of the year away from the Lakers once again. Check out the funniest memes and reactions right here.

At the end of the day, it’s just one game. We can’t overreact and say that the Clippers are finally going to be the defensive juggernaut and dominant team they’re supposed to be, or that the Lakers aren’t going to be as good as they were last season.

What we can be sure of is that we’re going to witness one of the closest and more competitive NBA seasons in basketball history. The league looks up for grabs right now and we can’t wait to see how the year unveils.
