The progression of the NBA Playoffs has already seen two of the league’s biggest stars eliminated. Stephen Curry and LeBron James exited the postseason without achieving their goal of competing for another title and attempting to catch up to other basketball legends, including Michael Jordan.

For Curry, the elimination was likely especially painful, considering he was unable to help the Golden State Warriors on the court during the decisive games due to a hamstring strain suffered in the opening match of the series. Without him, the team fell short and lost 4-1 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Previously, Anthony Edwards and his teammates had already ended the hopes of the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite having LeBron and Luka Doncic, they were outplayed by the Timberwolves and couldn’t avoid a five-game defeat, bringing their season to an abrupt close.

With these eliminations, both Steph and Bron came up short in their pursuit of another ring. At this stage of their careers, every opportunity counts, as chances are becoming fewer and time is steadily running out.

Upon returning to Cleveland, he made history by leading the franchise to its only league title in 2016, while he earned his latest ring with the Lakers in 2020. On top of that, he’s lost six other Finals: four with the Cavaliers and two with the Heat.

Michael Jordan’s titles

Michael Jordan’s career featured interruptions, retirements, and comebacks that made his NBA journey unique. Still, that turbulence didn’t stop him from putting up enviable numbers that even surpass those of today’s top stars.

By the time MJ wrapped up his run with the Chicago Bulls at 35, he had already secured six NBA championships — in two runs of three straight titles from 1991–1993 and 1996–1998. While his return to the league with the Washington Wizards was far from successful, he ultimately retired for good in 2003 without ever losing an NBA Finals, a striking contrast to Curry and James.
