After a tough season, few believe the San Antonio Spurs will make noise in 2025-26. Still, De'Aaron Fox stepped up and made a surprising prediction about the team’s future.

The San Antonio Spurs had a disappointing season, finishing 13th in the Western Conference. Injuries also affected their roster throughout the year. One of them sidelined star Victor Wembanyama, which hurt the team’s performance even more. Because of that, few analysts expect the Spurs to improve in the 2025-26 NBA season. However, De’Aaron Fox made a surprising statement about the team’s potential moving forward.

I think the sky’s the limit for this group…We could be extremely good because we’ve had guys like Keldon (Johnson), who’s averaged 20-plus points in a season. You were getting guarded by one of the two best defenders on the team, but when we’re all out there, they won’t be able to do that. Then just being able to get those games under our belt and being able to get a summer of working out with each other, stated De’Aaron Fox.

Despite not having a brilliant season, the Spurs’ roster is packed with talent. Young players like Stephon Castle, Victor Wembanyama, and Devin Vassell are already making an impact. They represent both the present and the future of the team. Moreover, they play a key role in the development of Mitch Johnson’s system.

In addition to the young core, the Spurs also rely on experienced players. De’Aaron Fox, Chris Paul, and Harrison Barnes are all having strong seasons. Their leadership and consistency could bring important balance to the roster.

Some people believe the team cannot compete in the 2025-26 season without major changes. However, the key may simply be staying healthy. If Mitch Johnson manages to keep his core players on the court, the Spurs could build real momentum and fight for the NBA championship.

The San Antonio Spurs did not win the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. However, they still got lucky by landing the No. 2 selection. As a result, speculation quickly grew around who they might choose with that pick. Most experts expect the choice to come down to Ace Bailey or Dylan Harper. Now, NBA insider Jeremy Woo reports that the franchise plans to select Harper.

Given this, many believe the team could include him in a trade to land an experienced big man. The goal would be to strengthen the roster for a deep playoff run. However, Jeremy Woo reported on ESPN that Spurs prefer to keep Dylan Harper as a they consider him as a major roster upgrade who comes at a low cost. The only scenario that could change this is the chance to acquire a true NBA star, like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
