Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have generated significant buzz concerning the player’s status for the upcoming NBA season. After contending with a knee injury last season, reports suggest that there are lingering concerns about his condition heading into the next season. Notably, a former Boston Celtics standout has voiced his opinion regarding Embiid’s management within the team’s roster.
Despite Embiid’s impressive performances in limited appearances with the Sixers, former Celtics standout Kendrick Perkins has voiced clear criticism of the management decisions made regarding Embiid, particularly as he has navigated a challenging knee injury.
During an episode of his podcast, Perk Unplugged, Perkins discussed Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey and his handling of Embiid’s injury, along with the decisions that allowed him to play last season amid his health concerns.
“It’s time to clean house in the front office. Let’s be real here, man. Daryl Morey has not done a great job. Daryl Morey knew about these injuries and what Joel Embiid was dealing with. Daryl Morey gave Joel Embiid an extension,” said Perkins, expressing his discontent with Morey’s management of Embiid.
Perkins asserts that by designating Embiid as a cornerstone of the franchise last season, the Sixers may have underestimated the serious nature of his injury. Rumors about the severity of Embiid’s condition were seemingly insufficient to deter Morey, and his decision may have adversely affected the team’s mentality heading into the season’s challenges.

For former Celtics standout, this leadership void could serve as a catalyst for the Sixers to “hit the reset button” and contemplate changes in the front office for the upcoming season.
“I would hit the reset button all across the f*** board. And it’s not just with trading Joel Embiid and Paul George, because I’m with you on that, but I’m also hitting the reset button on who actually paid those guys and jumped the gun,” Perkins urged.
As of now, the Sixers have yet to make significant roster additions, while speculation mounts about Embiid’s ability to return to his peak form, which historically electrified fans and placed him among the league’s elite. The fan base, well aware of the challenges ahead, eagerly anticipates Embiid’s resurgence for the upcoming season, as Philadelphia aims to reclaim its status atop the NBA hierarchy.
