The moment countless NBA players were waiting for has finally arrived: League commissioner Adam Silver recently announced that they wonât test for marijuana anymore, starting in the 2020/21 season.
Many former and current players have been advocating for marijuana use around the league for years. Some of them have even lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines for testing positive for marijuana.
Ben Dowsett was the first to break the news, claiming thatâContinuing a theme from the Orlando bubble, the NBA will not test its players for marijuana for the upcoming 2020-21 season.â However, he did add that past offenders could still be tested.
âImportant clarification here, per source: The NBAâs random marijuana testing program will not run for 20-21, as reported below. However, testing FOR CAUSE â that is, past offenders or those who have given reasonable cause to suspect use â will continue,â he said.
