After an early exit in the Eastern Conference semifinals that included a serious injury to Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics are already looking ahead to the next NBA season. In that context, the franchise announced Wednesday that Jaylen Brown had surgery and will now face a period of recovery.

The 2024 Finals MVP suffered a partial meniscus tear late in the regular season and played through the injury throughout the playoffs — including all five games against the Orlando Magic in the first round and the six games against the New York Knicks in the semifinals.

Although he was able to play under those conditions — and was even one of the team’s standout performers during those crucial matchups — now that the offseason has arrived, both the player and Boston’s medical staff decided to address the issue once and for all.

“Jaylen Brown today underwent a successful right knee arthroscopic debridement procedure,” the Celtics announced Wednesday on their official social media accounts. They also provided some reassuring news for fans regarding the timeline for the forward’s recovery: “He is expected to participate in training camp without limitation.”

Boston’s post on X received thousands of likes within just a few hours, along with many comments from fans wishing Brown a speedy recovery and hoping he returns in top form to lead the team next season. The player himself shared a couple of images on his official Instagram account, showing him and his right knee after Wednesday’s procedure.

Jaylen has been a key player for the Celtics in recent years, especially during the championship run in the 2023–24 NBA season. But his role is expected to become even more critical next year, as the team will be without its other major star: Jayson Tatum.

The 27-year-old forward suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Game 4 against the Knicks. That injury ruled him out immediately from the game and the series — and had far more serious implications. After undergoing surgery the following day, Jayson began a slow recovery process that is expected to last up to a year, casting doubt on his availability for the entire 2025–26 season.

With this significant absence, the Celtics will now lean heavily on Jaylen Brown to lead the team on the court. That’s why his physical condition has become a central focus for the franchise’s hopes next season — and the fact that his recovery is on track ahead of training camp is extremely positive news.
