After his injury in Game 4 of the conference semifinals, Jayson Tatum is expected to miss a significant portion of the 2025-26 season with the Boston Celtics. In response, the franchise is already considering shifting its offensive strategy towards Jaylen Brown, who would take on the leadership role. Although the team has not provided additional updates on Tatum‘s injury, a report from an NBA insider might offer insights into his surprising recovery progress.

He (Jayson Tatum) was moving really well, there might have been a slight limp or something, but the surprising thing to me is that he didn’t have a boot for any of it… I’m no doctor, but I’ve seen guys coming back from Achilles’ tears, and he looked way ahead. I was kind of shocked to see how well he was moving,” a scout revealed to Steve Bulpett, via Heavy Sports.

Jayson Tatum has shown extraordinary dedication to his recovery, training intensely at Chris Paul’s CP3 Elite Camp. Although his progress is promising, his return for the 2025-26 NBA season is still uncertain. An Achilles tendon rupture typically requires about 12 months for recovery, so the franchise likely prioritizes his full rehabilitation for long-term success. However, if Tatum continues to progress at this pace, he could boost the roster by mid-season.

If he does a lot of water therapy and a lot of individual workouts to get his range of motion backhe’s got to learn how to walk again – the mobility and the stretching will help him get back quicker, as well as getting the calf stronger… Because when you tear that Achilles tendon, you lose some muscle mass in that leg. You’ve got to try to stay ahead of the game,” Dominique Wilkins said, via Esports Insider.
