Kevin Durant had a noteworthy Sunday, marked by two major developments: the first being his anticipated move to the Houston Rockets next season, and the second, a milestone achievement by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team he spent nine years with earlier in his career. In response to Oklahoma City’s triumph, Durant took to social media, expressing his sentiments with a succinct six-word message.

Durant, a pivotal figure for OKC from 2007 to 2016, began his NBA career with the Seattle Supersonics before the team’s relocation and rebranding as the Thunder. During his nine-year stint, he garnered numerous individual accolades, but the elusive NBA championship remained out of reach as the Thunder made six playoff appearances under his tenure.

More than a decade since his last game with the Thunder, Durant’s emotional connection to Oklahoma is palpable. It was at OKC where he laid the foundation for his illustrious career, which eventually led him to his first NBA title with the Golden State Warriors just a year after parting ways with Oklahoma City.

In light of these developments, Durant’s reaction was certainly comprehensible. He shared a humorous moment involving Isaiah Hartenstein’s son, who was seen in a peaceful slumber while being held and as the Thunder celebrated their victory. “Lil Hartenstein is slumped. Congrats OKC,” Durant posted on his X account.

Former Thunder player Enes Freedom also expressed his pride and joy for his former team. “Congratulations to the Thunder on bringing home that championship! What a journey. Big love to the city, the fans, and the organization that gave me a home and lifelong memories. You earned this. Thunder family forever,” Freedom posted on his social media account.

Thunder’s record-breaking season

The Thunder’s championship run was not only a triumph for the team but also a record-setting performance. With this title, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander achieved a milestone that ranks alongside feats accomplished by many legends, excluding Kobe Bryant. The Thunder became just the fourth team in NBA history to win a championship by securing a total of 84 victories, underscoring their dominant performance throughout the season.
