Kyrie Irving calls out his teammates, admits he 'can't guard a stick'

Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving took offense at the way he played defense vs. the Washington Wizards and urged his teammates to step up and be more committed on that end of the floor.

The Brooklyn Nets have become the team everybody wants to talk about in the NBA right now. They have unmatched talent in the offensive end of the floor but are a huge question mark when it comes to getting stops.

Steve Nash’s team were riding an impressive 4-game winning streak when they traveled to the nation’s capital to face off vs. Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards. As you may know by now, the said streak was snapped in an impressive way.

The Nets committed a massive defensive blunder late in the game. Their terrible execution made them blow an 8-point lead, conceding back-to-back three-pointers in a matter of seconds to lose 149-146.

Kyrie Irving Says He Couldn’t Guard A Stick

Brooklyn allowed the Wizards – who had won a league-worst 3 games before last night’s outing – to score 48 points on the fourth quarter during the epic comeback, and Kyrie Irving admitted that they just can’t get the job done if they allow that many points:

“Idon’tknow if we’re going to get many wins if we allow 48 points in any quarter.I couldn’t guard a stick today. We just take this one on the chin and keep it moving,” Irving said after the game.

Irving has never been much of a defender, to be honest. Even when he’s trying – which doesn’t happen too often – he just lacks the skills on that end of the floor. Obviously, he makes up for it by being one of the most talentedoffensive players to ever do it.

The Nets recently signed veteran wing Iman Shumpert to improve their defense and are reportedly looking to trade for a rim protector as well, so it’s only a matter of time before they start getting stops.
