Both players joined Steve Pikiell’s team ahead of the 2024-25 season. They finished with a 15-17 overall record (8-12 in the Big Ten), finishing their season with a 97-89 double overtime loss to the USC Trojans in the first round of their conference tournament.&nbsp;



Harper finished his season playing 46 minutes, scoring 27 points, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out eight assists, stealing two balls and blocking two shots. Overall, he averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 48.4% from the field, 33.3% from deep and 75% from the free-throw line.

Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported on Tuesday that the possibility is off the table.&nbsp;



“Unlikely. Matter of fact I might even go highly unlikely,” Lewis said. “That’s from multiple sources. You never say never, but I think that’s something that I wouldn’t count on seeing happening. Trading up? Maybe. And I’m sure they’d love to have Dylan Harper, but the odds of him landing here in Brooklyn, not very good.”

With that in mind, Kyle Boone of CBS Sports dug deep into the tape and the projections to figure out the next stop for some players, and he thinks Kon Knueppel will end up with the Brooklyn Nets.

“Knueppel finished as a 40% 3-point shooter and averaged 14.4 points per game on a Duke team that won 35 games and made the Final Four. He averaged 15 points and shot 55.6% from distance in the NCAA Tournament and has the tools to be a plug-and-play scoring guard,” wrote Boone.

He believes the former Duke Blue Devils star will be the sixth-overall pick, and given the way he shoots the ball, it would certainly be more than justified to take him that high.

<h2>Russell’s Los Angeles experience</h2>



D’Angelo Russell’s second and most recent stint with the Los Angeles Lakers was far from ideal. He arrived in the middle of the 2022-23 season, traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves, and during his early days with the Lakers, he posted solid performances, averaging 17.4 and 18.0 points per game in his first two campaigns.

However, as time progressed, things did not go well for Russell, nor for the Lakers. When he left for Brooklyn, he was averaging a career-low 12.4 points per game, and the Lakers were struggling as well.



Since Russell’s departure, the Lakers have significantly improved, climbing in the Western Conference standings and positioning themselves as serious title contenders. While the arrival of Luka Doncic has been a key factor in that resurgence, coach JJ Redick recently credited the trade that included Russell, emphasizing that Dorian Finney-Smith has played a crucial role in the team’s improvement: “He’s brought a level of toughness. The spirit to want to defend. Guys have responded well to who he is as a player, a teammate.”



<h2>Russell understands his place with the Nets</h2>



In the same interview with HoopsHype, D’Angelo Russell reflected on his current role in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> and within the Nets. “I’m at the point in my career where I’m not going out and scoring 25 points every night and wowing with numbers,” he acknowledged. “It’s a point where I’m trying to gravitate toward doing it the right way, and how I can contribute to winning is my priority.”

This Monday night, the Brooklyn Nets secured a valuable 111-108 victory over the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers">Los Angeles Lakers</a> at Barclays Center. Luka Doncic was the primary focus of the Nets’ defensive strategy, and head coach Jordi Fernandez elaborated on the plan for containing the Slovenian guard.



“We had energy, we had pressure, we had to put two on the ball, especially with Luka,” Fernandez said during the post-game press conference in New York. “I thought the scramble, the energy, the communication was very good… Sometimes you bring the energy and you’re flying around.”



The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brooklyn-nets">Nets</a> coach also explained the risks involved with that strategy. “When you put two on the ball, you’re opening up something else,” he said. “And sometimes you just gotta get lucky that guys like them that can score in bunches, they’re not having the night.”



Fernandez, however, did not hold back in praising his own players for executing the plan to perfection. “It’s a two-way street,” he admitted. “Credit to our guys. Ziaire (Williams) did a great job and everybody else—Tyrese (Martin), Keon (Johnson). I think the whole team did a really good job, and that’s the reason we came up with a win.”

<h2>Doncic’s performance</h2>



With the absence of LeBron James due to physical issues, it was clear to the Nets that stopping <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/luka-doncic">Doncic</a> was their primary objective. With that in mind, they designed their defensive strategy to make him uncomfortable and prevent him from being the decisive force he had been in previous games.

Luka managed to record a triple-double in the 41 minutes he played, posting 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists, making him the second-highest scorer of the team behind Gabe Vincent (24). However, the Slovenian guard finished the night with one of the worst shooting performances of his career.



Monday’s game marked Doncic’s second-worst outing in games where he attempted at least 25 shots. He connected on just 8 of 26 attempts, and his three-point shooting was a mere 30%, hitting 3 of 10.



<h2>What’s next for the Lakers?</h2>



After an impressive eight-game winning streak that helped them climb in the Western Conference standings, the Los Angeles Lakers have now suffered two consecutive defeats. The loss to the Boston Celtics was somewhat expected, given the quality of their opponent. However, the defeat against Brooklyn, a team currently outside of the Play-In picture in the Eastern Conference, is inexcusable.



LeBron James’ absence undoubtedly affected the Lakers’ performance, but it doesn’t fully explain the result. The good news is that they will have a couple of days to rest before facing their next challenge: a matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night at Fiserv Forum. Just 24 hours later, they will face another tough test against the Denver Nuggets.
