The Los Angeles Lakers took a bold step by launching a new era under rookie head coach JJ Redick. Despite widespread skepticism, Redick defied expectations and guided the team back to the playoffs after missing out last season. Throughout the year, he made several changes to the roster. He gave Austin Reaves a bigger role and brought him into the core of the team. Besides, Redick helped Luka Doncic adapt quickly to the new system. Even with these results, Redick shared a very critical analysis of his own performance.
“I’ll use what my players say and what my coaching staff says to evaluate. I will get better. I don’t necessarily take any satisfaction from how the year went,“ stated JJ Redick to Jovan Buha. Besides, he added “That’s not to say I’m not proud of what the group was able to do, and how we were able to figure out things on the fly...But there are always ways to get better. And I can get a lot better,” concluded Redick.
JJ Redick’s management of player minutes drew sharp criticism. Many pointed out that the squad looked fatigued heading into the series against the Timberwolves. As a consequence, they got defeated on the last three games. Also, his team dealt with several challenges that made the path extremely tough. Such as the sudden roster change that disrupted a system that had been working well with Anthony Davis.
Despite some inconsistencies, their overall performance this NBA season has been impressive. At times, they looked like legitimate title contenders, thanks to a solid defense and a dynamic offense. Also, Austin Reaves rise is one of the most encouraging signs for the future. All this because he balances the offense while giving solid support on defense. Because of that, the team has high expectations for the upcoming season.

Los Angeles Lakers reportedly make major move to secure star player on their roster
Since joining the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic has become the centerpiece of Rob Pelinka’s long-term vision for the team. He averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game. Doncic also led the offense during the playoffs and took control in key moments. Because of this impact, the franchise wants to reward him with a major contract upgrade.

According to The Athletic, the Lakers plan to offer him full support and the best conditions to stay long-term. The first option is a four-year deal worth $229 million. However, Doncic may prefer a different path. He could choose a three-year contract worth $165 million, with a player option for the 2028–29 season. That would align with his 10th year in the NBA. At that point, he would qualify for a supermax deal projected at $418 million.
