This week, Dallas Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison held a press conference at the American Airlines Center, addressing the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. While discussing the move, Harrison seemingly took a jab at franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki, leading to a fiery response from Mark Cuban.

During the press conference, Harrison emphasized that his priority is the Mavericks’ success, even if that means making unpopular decisions. His remarks, however, included a subtle shot that many interpreted as a dismissal of Nowitzki’s opinion on the trade.

ā€œMy obligation is to the Dallas Mavericks. It’s what’s in the best interest of the Dallas Mavericks, and that’s the most important thing,ā€ Harrison stated, via Tim Cato. ā€œSome of those decisions are going to be unpopular—maybe to Dirk and maybe to the fans—but my obligation is to the Dallas Mavericksā€.

These comments didn’t sit well with Cuban, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to defend Nowitzki. The billionaire entrepreneur made it clear where the heart of the franchise lies.
