NBA Rumors: Lakers don't know what to do about Kyle Kuzma

The Los Angeles Lakers are facing a huge crossroads with Kyle Kuzma, who's reportedly looking for a 'sizeable extension' as his rookie deal runs out.

Ever since he made it to the league in 2017, Kyle Kuzma has been a subject of controversies among NBA fans and analysts. The former 27th overall pick has shown glimpses of great play, but he’s just not that consistent.

Kuzma was a solid pickup for a bad Los Angeles Lakers team. He was the only young player that surpassed the expectations and that’s likely the reason why they decided to hold on to him in the Anthony Davis trade last offseason.

Now, however, the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t that sure about his fit with the team longterm, especially in the wake of him reportedly looking for a ā€˜sizeable extension’ once his rookie contract runs out.

Los Angeles Lakers Wary Of Signing Kyle Kuzma To A Big Extension

And, according to Ian Begley of SNY, there isn’t a consensus within the organization regarding whether they should keep Kuzma, trade him, or just let him walk away, as he hasn’t proven that he’s worthy of a big payday, but he’s also young and somewhat promising:

ā€œAlso, in Los Angeles, there isn’t a consensus among decision-makers about signing Kyle Kuzma to a contract extension, SNY sources confirm (as first reported by The Ringer). I don’t see Los Angeles seriously considering a trade of Kuzma in the offseason, but it’s something worth keeping an eye on if you’re a Knick fan. The Knicks pursued Kuzma in trade talks at the 2020 trade deadline,ā€ Begley reported.

Kuzma was supposed to be the third scoring option for the Lakers this season but he vastly regressed in all aspects of his game. Moreover, his inconsistencyand careless and vain attitude have made fans question his actual contributions to the Championship run.

As of now, it seems like Kuzma is going to be vastly overpaid, either by the Lakers or another organization. That’s what happens when a young player gets so many mixed reviews. Hopefully, he’ll be able to perform to the standards of the money he gets.
