The NBA is full of surprises, and nothing is ever set in stone. After a challenging mid-season stretch, the Golden State Warriors have found their rhythm, posting an impressive 11-2 record since Jimmy Butler joined the team. With renewed confidence, Stephen Curry is leading a squad that has reignited its playoff ambitions after overcoming significant hurdles.

Butler’s arrival has certainly been a game-changer, but several factors have contributed to the Warriors’ resurgence as a legitimate playoff contender, and perhaps even a Finals threat. However, the Western Conference remains a battleground, with multiple teams vying for a championship run.

Despite the stiff competition, Curry remains confident that Golden State can reclaim its place at the top. Speaking with 95.7 The Game’s “Steiny & Guru” on Wednesday, the two-time MVP sent a strong message to the rest of the league, emphasizing the impact of Butler’s addition.

“We can win it [the NBA title]. Absolutely. That’s why we’re juiced to be in this position,” Curry said. “We have plenty of experience on our side, a good balance of veteran presence and youthful energy. Butler’s trade brought balance to our team, defined our roles, and solidified our rotation from night to night.”

Curry on the Warriors’ championship aspirations

Beyond discussing Butler and his impact on the court, the Warriors’ superstar also addressed Golden State’s chances of making a deep playoff run and competing for a championship. “How many teams in the league think they can win the title? Eight to ten, maybe. That’s how many teams believe they have a shot every year, and we’re on that list, Curry said.

He continued, “Being on that list doesn’t guarantee a championship, but I love the fact that we can say it with confidence every night and figure out how to beat everybody.

As Curry elaborated on what it will take for the Warriors to contend, he emphasized the importance of leadership from Draymond Green and Butler. “Me, Draymond, and Jimmy—we’ve all been in those battles. We know what it takes to navigate a playoff series, to study a specific opponent, to adjust, and ultimately find a way to win,” Curry explained.

Curry on longevity and love for the game

As an 11-time All-Star approaches his 37th birthday in 2025, his passion for the game remains unwavering. Despite the physical toll, Curry still feels the same joy he had when he first entered the NBA in October 2009.

About to turn 37, I feel the exact same, like a kid when I’m out there playing,” he said. “It just takes me a little longer to get there. The pre-game warmups, the recovery days, they take more time, but I can still get there.”
