49ers face another setback in Brock Purdy’s offense amid Brandon Aiyuk’s uncertain status

With Brandon Aiyuk’s health status uncertain, the San Francisco 49ers are bracing for another setback that could impact Brock Purdy’s offense at the start of the 2025 NFL season.

The San Francisco 49ers continue to get bad news ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Now, Brock Purdy’s offense has taken another hit amid the uncertain injury status of Brandon Aiyuk.

This is yet another chance for the 49ers to prove they are still serious contenders. The team has failed to meet expectations in recent years, largely due to a string of key injuries.

Last year, Brandon Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. It’s still unclear whether he will be ready for Week 1 — a potentially major absence for Purdy’s passing attack.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has received nothing but bad news in recent months. Once regarded as one of the most complete rosters in the NFL, injuries have prevented the Niners from living up to their potential.

Last season, San Francisco gave Aiyuk a lucrative contract extension, but his first year under the new deal ended abruptly due to the severe knee injury. His recovery continues, and his Week 1 status remains in doubt.

Making matters worse, the 49ers lost Deebo Samuel this offseason, creating an even bigger challenge for Purdy’s offense. Now, with Jauan Jennings questionable due to a calf injury, it looks like rookie Ricky Pearsall could be the WR1 in Week 1 against the Seahawks.

The problems don’t end there. Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson recently pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge, triggering an automatic three-game suspension.

Listed as the team’s WR4, Robinson’s punishment could increase given reports that he was driving over 100 mph — an aggravating factor that may add games to his ban. Shanahan has said the team is trying to get the suspension reduced, but it appears unlikely.

Do the 49ers have enough wide receivers for Week 1?

With both Aiyuk and Jennings questionable, the depth at wide receiver is dangerously thin. Jacob Cowing and Jordan Watkins are also listed as questionable on the depth chart.

As it stands, Ricky Pearsall, Russell Gage Jr., and Junior Bergen are expected to take the majority of snaps in the season opener against Seattle.
