“I thought he’s done exactly what we’ve asked him to do and I think we have a lot of confidence in him,” Stefanski said in Tuesday’s press conference.

While Stefanski didn’t directly say that Shedeur Sanders, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel lack that same confidence, it’s clear he values having an experienced quarterback under center in what could be a decisive season for his own future.

Stefanski has yet to deliver the success expected by the Browns’ front office, which is why he leaned on the obvious choice: a quarterback who knows what it’s like to win a Super Bowl and who carries fewer questions than the other options.
