Todd Gurley starred in one of the worst and most embarrassing moments in the NFL in recent years. The talented running back found himself under fire after scoring a touchdown last Sunday that gave a chance to the Detroit Lions to have one last offense that meant the win for the Lions with less than a minute on the clock.

Gurley scored a TD when the team was trying to run down the clock and attempt a field goal when trailing 16-14 in the last minute of the 4th quarter. Well, Gurley scored instead, left time on the clock and Matthew Stafford didn’t miss the chance to give the W to his teamagainst the wandering Falcons.

Gurley was under fire after that play and even though he said he was sorry because he didn’t mean to score, things are very different now, as new footage reveals he was aware of his team’s plans and didn’t follow the instructions that Matt Ryan gave him.

Even though head coach Raheem Morris took the blame for the whole play and the final outcome of the game, Gurley also addressed the play, saying he was ‘mad as hell’ for how things went down during that last minute.

“I was trying not to [score] … It’s one of them unfortunate situations,” Gurley said. “I’ve been, I mean, plenty of those situations my rookie year, six or seven, and I’ve always got down. It was an unfortunate one right there.”

A video shows that Matt Ryan made it clear to Gurley that they weren’t trying to score and that the touchdown wasn’t the desired result of their offense. He said it repeatedly, as to what the player apparently understood.

“Hey, don’t score. Don’t score. Don’t score. Get the first. Get the first. Get down,” Ryan urges Gurley.

Well, as we all now know, he didn’t run the play as told, scored the touchdown for Atlanta, leaving the door open for Stafford and his weapons. In the end, the Lions won the game, 23-22, and Gurley was the subject of criticism and jokes for his last play.

It was an unfortunate situation but the Falcons tried everything to keep things as they were. Sadly for them, Gurley had other plans.
