Mike Tomlin gets brutally honest about the Steelers' red-zone struggles

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is far from satisfied with his team's performance in the red-zone and he made it pretty clear after beating the Ravens.

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to be the only undefeated team in the NFL. More than that, they’re going through a franchise-best start after improving to 11-0 by beating the Baltimore Ravens.

However, most people still put an asterisk next to the Steelers’ perfect record. They’ve faced mostly subpar teams and most of their wins have been pretty close, including their 19-14 triumph vs. a Ravens team that was missing 23 starters.

Surprisingly, it seems like their very own coach Mike Tomlin is also wary of his team’s performances, and that’s why he didn’t hesitate to call him and his players out after a somewhat underwhelming performance.

Mike Tomlin Blasts Steelers Offense After Narrow Win Vs. Ravens

“We couldn’t run the ball effectively when we needed to, we dropped too many significant passes, very catchable, makable passes. We didn’t make significant plays in the special-teams game,” the coach said.

“Our kickoff coverage unit wasn’t good enough. We turned the damn ball over. We gave up big plays in critical moments on defense. Can’t have it. They converted a long run on a possession down before the half. Unacceptable. They had a 70-yard touchdown late in the game. Unacceptable,” Tomlin added.

“And so we’re fortunate tonight. It’s good to proceed with the victory. I acknowledge that. But not a lot happened tonight to be proud of or excited about. (…) It was bad by all parties involved. Coaches first, players second,” Mike said.

So, when asked about how poorly the team performed in the red-zone vs. the banged-up Ravens, Tomlin simply said that they sucked, adding that they “make no excuses, seek no comfort, anddidn’t play or coach well tonight.”

At the end of the day, the only stat that matters is wins and losses and the Steelers have 11 wins and 0 losses. However, they better make some adjustments while they still can if they don’t want to fall short in the playoffs.
