The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a challenging NFL season in which their best effort wasn’t enough to reach their goals. But as they prepare for the new campaign, there’s renewed energy around building a more complete roster — particularly with a project centered around quarterback Brock Purdy.
Purdy recently joined 95.7 The Game’s Mark Willard and Dan Dibley to talk about the team’s outlook. With most of the core still intact and a chip on their collective shoulder after finishing last in the NFC West, the 49ers are approaching 2025 with hunger. “Some of the dangerous teams are the ones that don’t know what to expect but know how to work,” Purdy said. “We’ve seen it year after year — teams that come out of nowhere and start winning when nobody expects it. That’s the kind of mindset we want to have.”
Even though the 2024 NFL season ended in disappointment, Purdy is optimistic about the team’s internal development. He emphasized how the returning veterans, like Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey, bring both experience and hunger.
“These guys are still in their prime and they’re ready to go,” Purdy said. “And we’ve got young talent that’s hungry to contribute. It’s about putting that chip back on our shoulder and taking things one game at a time.” For the quarterback, that mindset is already showing itself in offseason workouts. “You can feel it — the energy, the focus. This group wants to win, and that’s the kind of culture you need to build something special.”

Purdy believes things are on the right track
Despite the team’s recent setbacks, Purdy said there’s been noticeable growth in chemistry and effort this offseason. The team returned for Phase 1 of training with strong cohesion and a sense of urgency.

“Everybody came back ready to roll,” he told Willard and Dibs. “Guys are spending time together outside of football, and you can see that unity show up in the locker room, on the field, and in the weight room.”
While offseason optimism is common, Purdy insists this one feels real. “We’re building something meaningful. I think all the time we’re spending together now is going to matter when the season gets tough. We’re laying the foundation.”
Purdy makes big statement after losing key players
Purdy also reflected on the emotional impact of losing several key teammates this offseason, including Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga, and Aaron Banks — players he battled alongside during some of the team’s biggest moments.
“It’s always tough,” he said on KNBR. “You go through wars with these guys. You win games, you fight through adversity, and then suddenly they’re gone. That’s never easy.” But Purdy isn’t dwelling on departures — he sees it as part of the game. “It’s about building something new with the guys coming in. How do we establish trust? How do we build that authentic brotherhood again? That’s the challenge I’m excited about.”
