Andy Reid admitted in an interview with Mike Florio that one of the key factors that caused the Kansas City Chiefs to lose the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles was his playcalling approach at the start of the game.
āOn the first couple of drives, I think we had opportunities and I probably could have put the guys in a little better position there with some things. Against that crew, once you get into a true just pass situation, that third or fourth series where you got to throw the ball a little bit more, theyāre too talented up front. Thatās just how they are.ā
After falling behind early, Patrick Mahomes had no response with a Chiefs offensive line that collapsed, allowing six sacks. In less than three quarters, the possibility of a third consecutive championship vanished.
Why did Chiefs lose the Super Bowl against Eagles?
Andy Reid confirmed that one of the reasons the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl was the lack of a running game. When the Eagles took the lead, the head coach acknowledged that he lost patience and shifted the game plan toward passing.
āTheyāre tremendous pass rushers. Against them, youāve got to have some balance. Youāve got to be able to run the football a little bit. I probably could have stuck with that longer looking in the mirror, but it got to a point where we had to throw it and I think youāre playing into their hands when you do that.ā
