Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are happy to have Travis Kelce back for the 2025 NFL season, but they don’t know whether the tight end will still be at Arrowhead in 2026. Tua Tagovailoa‘s Miami Dolphins, meanwhile, could prevent the Kansas City Chiefs from securing a potential replacement for the 35-year-old.
On Tuesday, Kansas Jayhawks tight end Jared Casey revealed that he’ll be taking part in the Dolphins‘ rookie minicamp in South Florida this weekend (May 9 to May 11).
The undrafted free agent comes from participating in the same event with the Chiefs, who also evaluated Mahomes’ half-brother, Graham Walker, among other potential alternatives to Kelce.
“Appreciate the opportunity from the Chiefs, on to Miami this weekend for an opportunity from the Miami Dolphins,” wrote Casey on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

Chiefs may have enough TEs behind Kelce for 2025
Apart from Walker and Casey, the Chiefs also had tight end Jake Roberts for a tryout. Jake Briningstool and Tre Watson were also part of the TE room over the weekend, but both are already under contract for the 2025 NFL season in Kansas City.

The Chiefs already have a stacked TE room, which makes it easier for them to overlook undrafted free agents. In fact, not long ago, Reid and company parted with multiple tight ends as Kelce pushed retirement.

With Baylor Cupp and Anthony Firkser no longer in KC, Reid still has several options behind Kelce apart from Briningtsool and Watson: Noah Gray, Jared Wiley, and Robert Tonyan are also part of the roster for 2025. Only time will tell whether Casey comes back on a permanent basis or if he ends up teaming up with Tagovailoa in Miami instead of joining Mahomes‘ offense.
