Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers made a very interesting move days before the 2025 Draft. According to a report by Josina Anderson, they reached out to Aaron Rodgers, and that may have had an impact on their decision not to select Shedeur Sanders during the first round.
“I’m told the Steelers communicated with Aaron Rodgers at the beginning of the week that they would like to receive an answer from him before the Draft (at least 48 hours), per league source. Steelers know the outcome of that conversation.”
Although Rodgers denied it in an interview with Pat McAfee, several previous reports suggested that the former Super Bowl champion would not feel comfortable signing with a team that had a first-round pick on its roster. Therefore, although the star’s response remains unknown, the entire situation is very intriguing.
Who will be Steelers starting QB between Aaron Rodgers and Shedeur Sanders?
Aaron Rodgers seems to be the chosen starting quarterback for the Steelers. Without having to trade up in the draft, Pittsburgh had Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart available with the 21st pick but decided to go for defensive tackle Derrick Harmon.
Many experts mention that this is a clear signal that, as Anderson anticipated, Rodgers has possibly already given them a definitive answer or hints that he will indeed play for Mike Tomlin.

Ultimately, another possibility is that Mason Rudolph becomes the QB1 of the roster if Rodgers remains hesitant to sign with the team. In this scenario, interest in Kirk Cousins in a trade with Atlanta is not ruled out.
