A couple of months ago, every other team around the NFL was picking up the phone to call the Seattle Seahawks, as there were rumors ofRussell Wilson wanting to be traded after another subpar season.
The dual-threat gunslinger was reportedly livid at the organization for their inability to protect him and the fact that his input wasnāt considered when it came to adjusting the offense. Also, he didnāt do much to clear the air every time he had a chance to speak up:
āIām not sure if Iām available or not. Thatās a Seahawks question. I definitely believe theyāve gotten calls. Any time youāre a player that tries to produce every week and has done it consistently, I think people are gonna call for sure. I think thatās part of the process,ā the Super Bowl Winner said on The Dan Patrick Show several months ago.
Russell Wilson Says He Never Wanted To Be Traded
However, it seems like thatās all water under the bridge now. Wilson reached out to Charean Williams of NBC Sportsā ProFootballTalk to say that things were blown out of proportion and that he never wanted to be traded:
āI think first of all, you know obviously I love Seattle. I love playing here,ā Wilson said. āIāve had a great career here so far. Iāve always wanted to play here for my whole career, obviously. I think there were some unfortunate frustrations after the season. Obviously you want to win it all and do it all, and do everything you can. I think everybody on our team does. We all want to win it. I think, unfortunately, it got a little bit blown out of proportion. I think that my ultimate goal is to win.ā
ā(ā¦) In terms of the trade talks, I think anytime you play professional sports, thereās always a possibility of something happening, right? I think thatās just the reality. I think that thereās a lot of teams out there that people were saying that I was going to, or would go, that I requested a trade. I did not request a trade. Iāve always wanted to play here. The reality is I think calls were getting thrown around and this and that, and I mean thatās just a reality. But I think at the end of the day the real reality is Iām here and Iām here to win. Iām here to win at all,ā Wilson concluded.
Whether thatās the truth or not is yet to be seen. Then again, it doesnāt seem like any Russell Wilson trade got any traction thus far, so all signs point towards him staying put with the franchise he won a Super Bowl with, at least for another season.
