Last season was a breakout season for quarterback Sam Darnold, who led the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs in the 2024 NFL season. In the offseason, the 27-year-old found a new team when he joined head coach Mike Macdonald’s Seattle Seahawks.
Darnold’s arrival means a big change for the Seahawks, who will no longer have Geno Smith, who left to pursue his career with the Las Vegas Raiders. The former Vikings quarterback is now the main player in Seattle and will have to lead the team to fulfill the expectations of going far in the league.
Darnold’s new cycle with the Seahawks not only excited fans of the Seattle franchise, but also prompted a prominent opinion from Macdonald, who was quick to talk about the former Vikings quarterback’s arrival for the upcoming season.
Macdonald’s admission about Darnold
“I think it’s interesting because I haven’t had a relationship with Sam before a couple weeks ago, and it’s been awesome so far, our conversations. It’s been really cool to hear about people that have had a relationship with him in his life kind of throughout his journey, and all positive things they say about him,” Macdonald said about Darnold via NFL.com.

“I’m most excited about the person, the leader, the teammate, that guy that we get to work with every day. I think he’s in a great spot from our conversations. I think he’s energized, he’s driven and just like the rest of us in the building, so he’s going to fit right in,” Macdonald admitted.

A new step in Darnold’s career
Darnold will get a new opportunity in a leading role in the NFL. Given his young age and experience with several franchises, the Seahawks quarterback could find stability with his three-year contract in Seattle after spending a season in Minnesota under head coach Kevin O’Connell.
