While his career has transformed amazingly, Darnold still keeps having a big debt. No one doubts about Darnold’s ability on a week-to-week basis. However, when the games are must-win, Darnold’s form returns to the one that almost made him a journeyman. He hasn’t been able to keep his composure in high-stakes games. 



Darnold threw four interceptions in the game against the Rams, and that cost the team 14 points. Last season on the Wild Card Round, his team only got nine points, he threw for 245 yards, one touchdown and one interception for a very poor passer rate of 77.6. One thing is a common factor, the game was also against the Rams. Maybe it’s just the team being able to neutralize him.

Ernest Jones, a five-year NFL veteran now in his second season with the Seahawks and first alongside <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/sam-darnold">Sam Darnold</a>, came to his quarterback’s defense after Darnold suffered four interceptions against the Los Angeles Rams. As a good teammate, Jones publicly shielded Darnold from criticism.



In a strong, heavily censored statement, Jones told critics to leave Darnold alone: “Sam has had us in every f—- game. For him to sit there and say it’s his fault, no it’s not. … If you got anything to say quite frankly f— you,” said the linebacker, who witnessed the interceptions firsthand. 



The game finished 21-19 in favor of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-rams">Rams</a>, who also made errors but won by a narrow margin. At times, the game looked totally in the Rams’ favor, but the Seahawks defense managed to contain the disaster for a long stretch.

“I can’t turn the ball over as much as I did today,” Darnold said after losing the game, but assured he will learn from those costly errors. “I’ll learn from it, watch the tape, grow from it. You’ve got to give credit to the Rams. Obviously, they’re a really good defense, a really good team. But I’ve got to be better, personally.”

Darnold acknowledged the Seahawks defensive line did great work: “We’re still in this despite the turnovers and all the things that happened prior to that. That’s a huge credit to our defense, the way that they played all day,” and at the same time admitted he wasn’t at his best: “I just wish I could have played better for our defense and just everyone on the team.”

<h2>Mike Macdonald’s confidence remains high</h2>



Regarding Darnold, Coach Mike Macdonald was clear that he still has full confidence in his QB, who continued to help the team despite the interceptions during the game. “I’m not surprised. That’s who Sam is. He’s done it since day one with us. And he’s an ultimate competitor, and he’s a great quarterback — and he’s our quarterback. We love him.”



“We’re going to recoup,” Macdonald said after losing for the first time in five weeks. “We’re going to go get back and attack the heck out of this week just like we would if the field goal went in. Encouraged by our group; obviously, very disappointed we lost. We want to be able to win a game like that given all the circumstances, but we didn’t. But it’s a long season, and we’ll move forward.”

LeSean McCoy, who celebrated a Super Bowl win with Brady on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, insisted that it’s too early to give Darnold too much love.



“It’s that quarterback (Darnold) for me,” McCoy said on the “Speakeasy” episode on Sunday. “Last year, I kept saying, ‘Yo, we’re in the world where we guys are praising Sam Darnold this, that and the third.’ I said, ‘Dude, the problem with America nowadays is that everyone wants success right now.’ Like, to get to the NFL, you know how hard it is … you have to earn that. We want to give Sam Darnold all this love so early. Let him earn it. ‘Cause last year, he played well, and it got to the end of the season, and you know what happened? The old him showed up.”



The Seahawks continue to play at a high level, and Darnold beats more rivals every week. He already proved that last season wasn’t a fluke, but not everybody is convinced.

Hence, it’s very weird to listen to the team’s offensive coordinator talk about the approach on the team’s running game.



OC Klint Kubiak said, “That’s something that we want to keep giving him [Kenneth Walker III] more opportunities. He’s doing a heck of a job but I don’t want to discount Zach and I don’t want to discount [RB3 George Holani].” So… he is not only not clarifying how he will solve the issue, but he is also creating confusion on the RB depth chart.



As for now, Zach Charbonnet is out-snapping Walker, even though Walker is producing way more. Walker has always been the starter over Charbonnet but now it seems the roles reversed without a reasonable explanation by the coordinator.



<h2>Walker is incredibly proficient</h2>



Right now, Walker is way more efficient than Charbonnet. He has 364 rushing yards and three touchdowns averaging 4.7 yards per attempt that ranks him 17th in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a>. He should be the one alongside <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/sam-darnold" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sam Darnold</a> in the backfield most of the time.

On the other side, Charbonnet has 156 rushing yards and only 2.6 yards per attempt, which put him 44th in the league. By all metrics, Walker should be thriving on the Seahawks, but Kubiak is not letting him flourish.

<h2>Kubiak has had collapses before</h2>



Just last year, Kubiak was the Saints’ offensive coordinator and his first two games were incredible. The Saints scored 40+ points in both games and everyone was raving about him. Then, the team ended in the bottom half in yards and points scored.



Kubiak’s had great mentorship in the NFL. He comes from a long tree of coaches, but the one who made the biggest impact was Kyle Shanahan. After working for Shanahan, he has received offensive coordinator jobs instead of assistants or lesser roles. Hence, it’s baffling that his big issue now is the run game, where Shanahan excels.
