NFL News: Steelers, Mike Tomlin prevented Chargers from signing a top-tier weapon for Justin Herbert

The Pittsburgh Steelers aim to have a great 2025 NFL season. For that reason, Mike Tomlin has added several weapons this free agency and even stole a top-tier target from Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Once the 2024 season ended, the Steelers began making several changes to their roster. The AFC North club has not been able to achieve success recently, and the front office has had enough of these failures.

While the club has lost several players this offseason, others have arrived. One of their new acquisitions was also a target for the Chargers, but a player from the Steelers convinced him to join their cause for the upcoming campaign.

A few days ago, the Steelers announced the arrival of DK Metcalf. The talented wide receiver had a great tenure with the Seahawks, which is why he was a primary target for many clubs this offseason.

The Steelers were not the only club interested in Metcalf. According to reports, the Chargers were also eyeing him to bolster Justin Herbert’s offense, but it seems like Cam Heyward was the one who convinced him to join Pittsburgh instead of going to LA.

“I was in California at the time, and I heard DK was in town, and then someone was like, ‘Oh he’s going to the Chargers,’ the defensive tackle said. “And so I hit up one of my friends Tracy Perlman and she was like, ‘Yeah, I hear he might be going.’ I’m like, ‘Text DK. Tell him to come with us.’
