Steelers' DK Metcalf opens up about facing former team Seahawks in Week 2 of NFL season - Bolavip US

Aaron Rodgers came to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he didn’t come alone. <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mike-tomlin" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mike Tomlin</a>‘s team went and brought a certified number one weapon for him in wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. After a few practices, the wideout has given an honest assessment of what the team’s defense is capable of.



Speaking to <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> Network, the wide receiver assured that going on 11-on-11 drills against the Pittsburgh’s defense in training camp is the toughest challenge he has faced in the league so far. He also paid compliments to cornerbacks Joey Porter Jr., <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/jalen-ramsey" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jalen Ramsey</a> and Darius Slay. 



“That reckless defense that we’ve got on the other side of the ball, every play I get to go against JPJ, Jalen or Slay, so I’m always getting better in that aspect,” <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dk-metcalf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Metcalf</a> confessed. “I think they’re the best defense I’ve ever seen. They come to work every day and we don’t have any choice but to get better.” 



<h2>Metcalf is experiencing Tomlin’s method</h2>



Three things are certain in life. Death, taxes, and Mike Tomlin having a great defense in place. Metcalf is now experiencing it first hand. Porter Jr., Ramsey and Slay project as one of the best secondaries in the whole NFL. They bring experience, All Pro selections, Super Bowl rings, speed, size, and physicality to the roster.

All those characteristics, while guided by Tomlin’s leadership, make this unit one of the absolute best in the NFL. This, as Metcalf said, forces the offense to do better. This means that iron sharpens iron, and as long as the defense is elite, Aaron Rodgers and company will be good too. <h2>Metcalf praises the secondary, but what about the rest?</h2>



Alongside that tough secondary, the Steelers are well prepared to give opposing teams a very bad time on the trenches. <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tj-watt" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">T.J. Watt</a> is ready to add another double-digit-sack season to his Hall of Fame career, Cam Heyward is a veteran, but the defensive tackle still made All Pro last season. Add first-round pick Derrick Harmon to the mix and the defensive line might be elite.



In the middle of the field, the linebacker corp is filled with good players too. Patrick Queen is fresh off a 129-tackle season with a Pro Bowl selection included. Payton Wilson, Malik Harrison and Cole Holcomb are good depth-pieces to have as well.

With this, the new lineup for the Steelers should be very talented. Rodgers might not be a top 3 QB anymore, but he still has precision and high football IQ. He should be accurate enough to be dangerous.

The Steelers suffered a big blow losing TE Donald Parham Jr. for the season due to an Achilles tear. Good news is their best tight end, Pat Freiermuth, is ready to have a big season. As a backup, reliable veteran Darnell Washington will see some snaps as well.



In the running game, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/najee-harris" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Najee Harris</a> left to the Chargers, which made Jaylen Warren the undisputed RB1 of the team. His explosiveness will be backed up by rookie Kaleb Johnson and Super Bowl-winning veteran Kenneth Gainwell.



There are no excuses for offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to not make this offense work. The Steelers had the 23rd-ranked total offense last season in Smith’s first year as Pittsburgh’s OC.

And chances are that he ends up throwing passes to DK Metcalf and George Pickens on Mike Tomlin‘s watch in 2025.



But his arrival could help the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/pittsburgh-steelers">Steelers</a> get even more talent this offseason. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, wide receiver Allen Lazard might be interested in leaving the New York Jets to reunite with Rodgers.



“Lazard could be waiting to see if a reunion with free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is possible before deciding on the Jets’ proposal,” wrote Cimini, who reported that Lazard would have to take a pay cut to stay in NY.



<h2>Will Lazard reunite with Rodgers again?</h2>



Lazard, 29, was one of many players who followed <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/aaron-rodgers">Rodgers</a> from the Green Bay Packers to the Jets in 2023. But now that A-Rod left the Big Apple, the wideout might be interested in packing his bags as well.

Cimini reports that the Jets want to reduce his $11 million base salary to approximately $2.75 million. Not only do the Steelers look like the most realistic option for Rodgers this offseason, but they also received positive signs from the quarterback, as team owner Art Rooney claimed at the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> annual meetings last week.



Perhaps the biggest reason to believe came from Rodgers’ visit to the Steelers’ facility in March, spending hours in the building as he talked to <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mike-tomlin">Tomlin</a> and general manager Omar Khan.



In addition, he also had a throwing session with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dk-metcalf">Metcalf</a> at UCLA, a decision that many saw as a test of their possible chemistry in Pittsburgh. The Steelers landed the star wide receiver via trade from the Seattle Seahawks, giving a huge boost to a WR room that already counted on the likes of Pickens and Calvin Austin.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Rodgers recently worked out with Steelers wide receiver <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dk-metcalf">DK Metcalf</a>, with the duo having a throwing session over the weekend at UCLA.



“Over the weekend at UCLA, he threw to DK Metcalf. They did have a throwing session. The two of them together, according to sources, informed of that workout,” reported Garafolo, noting that it could help Rodgers decide whether the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/pittsburgh-steelers">Steelers</a> are the right fit for him in 2025.



“So Rodgers going through the process and checking all the boxes. And I assume it was a good throwing session there with him and Metcalf. So we’ll see if that leads to him saying, you know what? Yeah, I’m fully in. I like that guy. I like that target right there,” Garafolo added.

<h2>Tomlin, Steelers got Metcalf before Rodgers</h2>



Metcalf, 27, joined the Steelers via trade this offseason after spending his first six years in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> with the Seattle Seahawks, who got a second-round and a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in return.

Shortly after moving to the Steel City, Metcalf reportedly landed a five-year, $150 million contract extension with the Steelers. This means the team will count on a talented playmaker in the long term, hoping that he also makes an immediate impact on the team.



Metcalf could already prove impactful if he helps to persuade Rodgers. At 41, the quarterback is contemplating the best option for his future, and his recent throwing session with the wideout could give him a glimpse of what to expect in Pittsburgh.



A positive workout could make Rodgers feel optimistic about a potential move to the Steelers, where Tomlin and company are waiting for him with open arms. If A-Rod feels there’s a legitimate chance to contend, the move could be possible.



<h2>Tomlin giving Rodgers the time he needs</h2>



This is not the first action that directly links Rodgers to the Steelers though, as the veteran quarterback visited the team’s facility earlier in March. <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mike-tomlin">Tomlin</a>, however, declined to predict whether Rodgers will ultimately join his team.



“It’s been reported that he spent a day with us, and it was a really good day. Specifically he and I obviously have known of each other for some time, and so it was really good to spend some time together man and get to know each other more intimately, but it is free agency. It is a process. I have nothing of any more significance to add other than that,” Tomlin told reporters at the NFL owner’s meetings on Sunday.

Both Pickens and Metcalf have the opportunity to be key weapons in the Steelers’ offense.
