As reigning NFL champions, the Philadelphia Eagles know they’re the team to beat — and that means they’ll need to raise their game even higher to stay in the title hunt. Nick Sirianni, the mastermind behind it all, revealed the core message he’s delivering to his players heading into the upcoming season.

Winning a Vince Lombardi Trophy is no easy feat — and doing it twice in a row is even harder. The team’s head coach is fully aware of that, which is why he delivered an important reflection within the locker room: avoid using the word ‘repeat’ and instead focus on the concept of ‘sustained success.’

During a lengthy interview session with Eagles reporters, published on nbcsportsphiladelphia.com, Sirianni spoke about this situation and how he believes it will impact his players as they prepare for the next campaign.

“Yeah, for sure,” he said. “Every time we talk about it, talking about this topic, we’re talking about sustained success. I think they understand what that is. A lot of these guys have had sustained success, right? They know it’s not anything they’ve done in their past and it’s not them looking forward to the future. It’s about being where they are right now. I think that’s kind of our daily message with them.”

The key to repeating success

Nick Sirianni is a seasoned figure in the NFL, and he knows that what they achieved was anything but easy. Resting on their laurels, as the saying goes, is not something he intends for his players. Instead, he’ll push them to double down on their efforts in hopes of replicating this major accomplishment.

“You either can be right where you are, or you can look at it like, ‘How are we going to get back to the Super Bowl?’ Error,” Sirianni said, via Dave Zangaro. “Man, resting on your laurels and resting on your past accomplishments? Error. That builds your confidence and stuff like that. But I think it’s just again, being right back into [what you’re doing now].

“That doesn’t mean that it’s easy. You’re in the building, and everyone has the common goal of getting better, and this and that. But then you go outside, and there are things pulling you in different directions because of the success. And that’s where it becomes tricky. It’s just making sure that you’re focused and locked in of where you are in each individual day. I know that’s boring. But success takes what it takes.”

The road to a new challenge

Winning back-to-back titles in this league is undoubtedly an incredible privilege — and it’s something the Eagles are dreaming of. To make that happen, they’ll need to kick off the upcoming NFL season on the right foot and overcome these early challenges on their schedule.
