Alex Ovechkin is currently going through, in a way, a crucial phase in his career as a professional hockey player, which is why he’s making the most of every opportunity that comes his way. Ahead of the upcoming NHL season, the Washington Capitals star confirmed he will be attending an important event.
Before returning to the United States, the league’s all-time leading scorer has an important commitment scheduled for late August—one he says he simply can’t miss.
During a recent press conference, Ovechkin confirmed that he will be in attendance for Pavel Datsyuk’s “Magic Game” on August 30 at the UGMK Arena. The exhibition will take place weeks after the Ovi Cup gala match has been held.
“Yes, I will definitely fly to Pasha [in Yekaterinburg],” he said per the game’s Telegram account. “I can’t miss this day, especially since we had a wonderful conversation with Datsyuk when he played in the gala match in Mytishchi at the Ovechkin Cup.”

Alex Ovechkin #8 of the Washington Capitals arrives for the game against the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena on January 16, 2023 in Elmont, New York.
It is expected that during this event, former Capitals teammates Alex Semin, Sergei Fedorov, and Ilya Kovalchuk will reunite on the ice alongside Ovechkin.
