Alex Ovechkin made history last NHL season by surpassing Wayne Gretzky to become the league’s all-time leading goal scorer. His experience and years as an elite player have led many to wonder what the immediate future holds for the Washington Capitals’ star.

As preparations slowly begin for a new season, some players are also taking time to focus on matters off the ice. That’s the case for Ovechkin, who recently took part in the ā€˜Corporation of Good’ charity presentation.

It was there that one of the league’s most experienced and respected players spoke about what lies ahead for him, making it clear that he prefers to take things step by step rather than rushing the process.

ā€œMy future career? I’ll be 40 in September,ā€ Ovechkin said. ā€œI’m taking it step by step, living in the present,ā€ he also added per TASS.

The crucial support behind him

Reaching such heights in a physically demanding sport — and remaining among the elite for so many years — is a privilege reserved for few. Ovechkin is one of them, and the star himself admitted that it would have been very difficult to achieve without the support of his family.
