The game started with the Capitals dominating the scoreboard. McMichael opened the scoring in the first period, followed by goals from Dubois and Wilson in the second period, giving Washington a commanding 3-0 lead.

However, the Senators refused to back down. Pinto sparked the comeback with a goal late in the second period, cutting the deficit to 3-1. In the third period, Giroux brought Ottawa within one, and Pinto tied the game at 3-3 with his second goal of the night. Fehervary temporarily restored the Capitals’ lead, but Brady Tkachuk tied the game at 4-4 with just minutes remaining in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Shootout decides the outcome

After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout. Dylan Strome was the only player to convert, securing the 5-4 victory for the Capitals. The win was a much-needed boost for Washington, while the Senators earned a valuable point despite the loss.
