Rossi has already turned down a five-year extension offer averaging $5 million per season, deeming it insufficient and below what he believes to be fair value. Since then, the situation has sparked a dispute over his worth, with salary comparisons to teammates like Matt Boldy, who carries a $7 million AAV, placing Rossi at a disadvantage.

Insider Frank Seravalli didn’t hold back when discussing the gap: “He’s gonna want a deal much closer to the Matt Boldy contract, I don’t think the Wild are going anywhere near that number, and of course they have the leverage with the RFA.” His statement highlights the clear contrast between Rossi’s expectations and Minnesota’s current stance.

From the front office’s perspective, general manager Bill Guerin has maintained a firm position, indicating that the Wild aren’t willing to get anywhere near $6 million AAV for Rossi, while also holding contractual leverage since he remains a restricted free agent (RFA).
