After three playoff runs with the Dallas Stars, Mason Marchment is ready for a new chapter on the West Coast. The veteran winger broke his silence following his trade to the Seattle Kraken, expressing both gratitude for his time in Texas and excitement for what lies ahead in Seattle.

The 30-year-old forward, known for his physicality and scoring touch, was dealt last week in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 third-rounder. Despite the surprise of the move, Marchment made it clear he’s not dwelling on the past. “For me, it’s going to be a fresh opportunity and a good start, and that’s always exciting, he told theAssociated Press.

As Seattle enters a new era under head coach Lane Lambert, Marchment is poised to play a key role in the team’s attempt to return to the playoffs. He joins a retooling roster that’s already seen changes this summer and could see more before training camp opens.

A veteran ready for change

Marchment’s comments reflected the mindset of a player embracing the realities of professional hockey. It’s a business and I get that. There had to be some changes, and it just so happened to be me, he said. “There’s teams out there that want you, so it’s always a good thing.” He emphasized that the trade isn’t something he takes personally, and instead views the Kraken as a fresh opportunity to contribute at a high level.

The Uxbridge, Ontario native tied a career high with 22 goals last season and totaled 47 points in just 62 games, proving his continued value as a middle-six contributor with upside.

Kraken fans made an impression

Seattle’s postseason run in 2023, where they upset the Colorado Avalanche and pushed the Stars to seven games, left a lasting impression on Marchment. It was awesome,” he recalled. “The fan base sticks out instantly. It was rocking in there for three games. It was a hard building to play in, too.” Now, he’s eager to experience that energy from the home bench at Climate Pledge Arena.

Following the trade of Andre Burakovsky to Chicago, the door is open for Marchment to claim a top-six role, potentially giving him a larger spotlight as he enters the final year of his four-year, $18 million contract.

Seattle’s summer rebuild is far from over

The Kraken finished the 2024–25 season with a 35-41-6 record, landing near the bottom of the Pacific Division. With the additions of Marchment and Joe Veleno, and possibly more on the way, Seattle’s front office—led by GM Jason Botterill—is focused on adding experience and grit to a young roster.
