Edmonton will visit Dallas twice next season, but on November 4, the Stars have already begun preparing a special theme night.



When the Oilers and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-stars">Stars</a> meet for the first time since the 2025 Western Conference Final, Dallas will greet fans with Rantanen memorabilia. “On Tuesday, November 4 early arriving fans have the opportunity to grab a one-of-a-kind Mikko Rantanen bobblehead,” the Stars announced, via NHL.com.



<h2>Bad blood</h2>



Though not particularly close in a map, the Stars and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/edmonton-oilers">Oilers</a> hold a grudge for one another. Obviously, the hatred is bigger in Dallas, as McDavid and Edmonton have had the best of them in consecutive <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> postseasons.

Not content with eliminating the Stars at the gates of the Stanley Cup Final in 2024, the Oilers did it all over again in 2025. Edmonton defeated Dallas in six games during the 2023-24 Playoffs, only to one-up themselves and knock the Stars out in five games during the 2024-25 postseason.

<h2>Something to prove</h2>



Edmonton may have the upper hand over Dallas, but it isn’t much better off either. While the Oilers are the Stars’ tormentors, they can’t say the same for the Florida Panthers, who have beaten them twice in a row in the Final.

The Dallas Stars‘ road to a new <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season begins with high hopes — hopes that have only grown stronger thanks to encouraging news about the return of key players who’ve already proven their value. Jason Robertson, one of the pillars of this team, is excited about the chance to make a serious run in the upcoming campaign.



Roope Hintz, who ended his latest season early after suffering a foot injury during the Conference Finals against the Oilers, has confirmed that he’s now back to 100%, and he’s set to return to the ice at the start of the training camp.



The news was well received by the team led by Glen Gulutzan, as they regain one of their top-performing players in recent times.



“I’m feeling good. My foot is fine, and I’ve been able to train normally this summer,” Hintz said at the NHL/NHL Players’ Association European Player Media Tour on Friday. “So everything is good.”

“Of course, it’s always hard if you get injured at that time of the year but you just try to find ways to get back on the ice as quick as possible,” Hintz said about his injury. “We found a good solution there and I was able to play, and I felt like normal. So it’s OK. Now it’s been fine after that.”

Robertson is currently in the final year of a four-year contract averaging $7.75 million per season, according to NHL.com. The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-stars">Dallas Stars</a>, a team with serious title aspirations, have added a former Jack Hughes teammate from the New Jersey Devils to their lineup — a move aimed at providing strong support for Jason Robertson.


 


The player in question is none other than veteran forward Nathan Bastian, who joins Glen Gulutzan’s squad after agreeing to a one-year contract worth $775,000.



Bastian entered the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> after being selected by New Jersey in the second round (41st overall) of the 2016 Draft. Additionally, during the 2021–22 season, he spent time with the Seattle Kraken.



His arrival is expected to be valuable to the team not only because of his on-ice experience, but also for the leadership and support he can provide to his teammates even when he’s not in the lineup.

<h2>Bastian’s arrival brings buzz to the Stars</h2>



In recent hours, news broke that Nathan Bastian is joining the Stars to bolster their roster — a move that has generated plenty of excitement. Jim Nill, the general manager in Dallas, shared his thoughts on the signing via NHL.com.

<h2>His strong run with Hughes’ Devils</h2>



During the 2024-25 season, Nathan Bastian, 27, contributed 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 59 regular-season games with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-jersey-devils">New Jersey Devils</a>. He also made an appearance in five postseason games.


 


This season marked a career first for Bastian, as he scored at least one shorthanded, power-play, and game-winning goal. He netted his first-ever shorthanded goal on October 17 and a power-play goal on January 29. In addition to his offensive contributions, Bastian was a physical presence on the ice, recording 138 hits in the regular season and an additional 15 in the postseason. This ranked him third on the Devils with 15.5 hits per 60 minutes during the team’s playoff run.

<h2>Rantanen knows the Olympics will be a talking point in Dallas</h2>



With NHL players returning to the Winter Olympics, Rantanen already predicts the Milano Cortina 2026 event to be a big talking point with his teammates in Dallas during the next <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season.

“Let’s see how many (Dallas) Stars players will be named to their respective teams,” Rantanen said on Monday, via the <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/finland-eyeing-defensive-minded-team-at-olympic-winter-games-milano-cortina-2026" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">NHL’s official website</a>. “Once we know the rosters, I’m pretty sure there will be a lot of Olympic talk in our room.”

<h2>Rantanen among Stars called up to the Olympics</h2>



Rantanen is among six players selected to Finland’s preliminary roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics. That list includes Stars teammates Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell as well as Aleksander Barkov―captain of the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions Florida Panthers―Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators and Sebastian Aho, with whom Rantanen overlapped on the Hurricanes.

Finland will kick off the men’s ice hockey tournament in Milano Cortina 2026 when they take on Slovakia on February 11. Group B rivals also include Sweden and the host Italy, with the gold medal game set for February 22.

<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-stars">Dallas Stars</a> defenseman Miro Heiskanen is back at full strength after a knee injury cut short his regular season and sidelined him for a portion of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 26-year-old Finn confirmed he’s “100 percent back to normal” following surgery and a full offseason of recovery.



That return to form is welcome news for the Stars — and for Team Finland, who are ramping up preparations ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.



“I’m 100 percent back to normal after the surgery,” Heiskanen said, according to <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/miro-heiskanen-focused-on-helping-finland-at-2026-winter-olympics" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">NHL.com</a>. “I’ve been able to practice all summer as usual.”



<h2>How important is Heiskanen’s return for Finland’s Olympic hopes?</h2>



Heiskanen’s knee injury — suffered in a collision with Vegas’ Mark Stone on Jan. 28 — forced him out for the final 32 games of the regular season and 10 playoff contests. Without him, Dallas fell to the Oilers in five games in the Western Conference Final. The timing also ruled him out of the 4 Nations Face-Off, where Finland went 1-2-0 without their top blueliner.

Now back in full training and participating in Finland’s Olympic orientation camp in Helsinki, Heiskanen brings elite-level stability to the national team. “It’s always nice to see Finnish players,” he said. “We all know each other pretty well… Good to know things, don’t need to worry about what will happen [in Italy].”

With NHL players returning to Olympic competition for the first time since 2014, Finland’s blue line gains significant strength with Heiskanen anchoring the back end.



<h2>Can Finland repeat its Olympic success with NHL stars back?</h2>



Heiskanen knows what it takes on the international stage. He played for Finland in PyeongChang 2018 and now joins an experienced core already named to the 2026 squad: <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mikko-rantanen">Mikko Rantanen</a>, Esa Lindell, Aleksander Barkov, Juuse Saros, and Sebastian Aho.

While expectations are high, the defenseman isn’t fazed. “No pressure from defending the gold medal,” Heiskanen said. “Of course we want to win again, but we don’t think about it too much. We take one game at a time.”

Stars' Heiskanen drops game-changing knee recovery news and bold 2026 Olympic Gold claim for Finland

While expectations for the Carolina Hurricanes last <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season included serious hopes of reaching the Stanley Cup Finals, their overall performance was still impressive. That said, some believe certain decisions may have influenced the outcome — including Mikko Rantanen’s departure to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-stars">Dallas Stars</a>.


 


Pyotr Kochetkov, one of the standout players under Rod Brind’Amour, was blunt when addressing the team’s situation — acknowledging that the departure of extraordinary talent from the roster may have held back the team from reaching an even higher level.



Although Rantanen had a brief stint with the Hurricanes after being traded from the Colorado Avalanche, his level of play impressed everyone within <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carolina-hurricanes">Carolina</a>’s facilities — though unfortunately, the excitement didn’t last long.



“We lost Rantanen, Necas – it would be stupid to turn a blind eye to that, because they are key players, leaders of the team,” the goalie said via sports.ru. “Even though Rantanen did not become a leader for us, you saw what he did in Dallas. You could say he led the team to the second round when he beat Colorado in Game 7.”

 “He was a high-level player. You see how he acts, how he sees the game. Even in the training process, there was something to learn from him,” Kochetkov also added. “He is a great professional, he has been playing in the league for a long time. There were many interesting things that he did – his routine. Overall, I can only speak positively about him.”

<h2>Necas was another departure Kochetkov openly lamented</h2>



The Carolina Hurricanes traded forward Martin Necas to the Colorado Avalanche as part of a three-team blockbuster deal in January 2025. This move came after a season of trade speculation and a short-term contract that did not fully resolve his long-term future with the team. 



While Necas provided a high-skill offensive presence and speed, his departure was a significant shake-up to the Hurricanes’ forward group.



In exchange for Necas and other assets, the Hurricanes acquired <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mikko-rantanen">Mikko Rantanen</a> from Colorado and Taylor Hall from the Chicago Blackhawks. The expectation was that Rantanen would provide the elite goal-scoring that the Hurricanes felt they lacked.


 


However, Rantanen’s tenure was brief, as he was subsequently traded to the Dallas Stars at the trade deadline after failing to agree on a contract extension, which complicated the team’s forward situation.
