The Calgary Flames enter the new season with one of their most experienced forwards, Nazem Kadri, reaffirmed as a key piece of the team. After an outstanding campaign with 35 goals and 67 points in 82 games, the 34-year-old veteran center brought leadership and consistency to a franchise undergoing a process of redefinition.
However, things have become more complicated off the ice. During the offseason, rumors of a potential trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs intensified, as they identified Kadri as an option to bolster their offense in the post-Mitch Marner era. Nevertheless, those talks eventually stalled.
Kadri remains a player capable of tipping the balance in decisive moments. His performance solidified him as one of the most respected figures in Calgary’s locker room, but the veteran also voiced his frustration at being left out of Team Canada’s call-up.
Kadri’s reaction
“I feel like I deserve a chance. I think over the last few seasons, I’ve certainly proven that with my statistics and the winning pedigree. I think it speaks for itself,” Kadri said in an interview with The Athletic regarding his absence from Team Canada’s orientation camp for the 2026 Olympic Games.

“Honestly, man, it would be an absolute dream come true to somehow crack that team… I’ve been a long shot before. I’m looking forward to giving myself an opportunity. But I understand I’m going to have to play well,” Kadri added.
